Title: Assistant Head for Finance

School: The Storm King School, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Years at the School: 13

Superpower: Growth Mindset. During Hecht’s tenure at The Storm King School (SKS), enrollment increased by over 45%, which was bolstered by his work to nearly double the campus footprint. These efforts “dramatically improved” the curb appeal of facilities, said his nominator, Head of School Lisa Shambaugh. “Ray has been a key part of moving SKS onto solid financial ground, and has helped to lay the groundwork for a promising future,” offered h. “He will be greatly missed after he retires this year,” she added.

Sage Partner: “He has always been a sage partner to the head and leadership team, while also serving as a supportive ear to the needs of faculty and staff. His ability to blend practicality with empathy is especially impressive,” said Shambaugh.

Steady Presence: Hecht is known for his steady hand during the most challenging times. “Even in moments of conflict or strife, he ensures that everyone feels listened to and cared for (even when things don't go their way).”

Other Duties as Assigned: Hecht is an active contributor to local and regional independent school associations and has provided mentorship to many fellow business officers.

Above and Beyond: This past school year, a group of students launched a service project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Quietly and without recognition, Hecht personally contributed funds to help ensure the project's success. “He always centers students in his priorities, ensuring that they have the best possible experience at The Storm King School,” said Shambaugh.
