The Will J. Hancock Unsung Hero Award is given to business officers who have made extraordinary contributions to their schools and exemplify exceptional integrity, knowledge and motivation. At the end of each school year, new Unsung Heroes receive their award from their head of school, often at a significant school occasion such as a board meeting or an all-school ceremony. What makes these Unsung Heroes so special? The highlights below come straight from their colleagues' nominations.

Years at the School: 21 

Superpower: Inclusive Leadership: Haugh’s cross-functional leadership spans advancement, facilities, security, IT, communications, HR and auxiliary programs. Known for his collaborative spirit and open-mindedness, he brings diverse perspectives into strategic planning — uniting departments around a shared commitment to mission-driven work. He has also provided advice and mentorship to many throughout his tenure. “My fellow employees — and more than two decades of trustees — hold Bob in the highest professional and personal regard ... for his inclusive leadership and unwavering integrity,” shared Francis W. Parker School Principal Daniel Frank. 

 He consistently minimizes tuition increases while fostering financial predictability for families.

Affordability Architect: Haugh’s commitment to enhancing socio-economic diversity and expanding access has resulted in a 79% increase in total financial assistance awards since 2014, as well as the development and management of the faculty and staff tuition remission program. “[Haugh’s] steady leadership ensures the school’s budget supports educational excellence,” said Frank. “He consistently minimizes tuition increases while fostering financial predictability for families.” 

Trusted Financial Steward: In his 21 years at the school, Haugh has helped grow the endowment from $12 million to $68 million thanks to two campaigns, strategic investments and his steady financial leadership. “Donors give because they know their gifts will be well managed,” said Frank, reflecting the trust Haugh has earned through his stewardship. 

Blueprint Pro: Haugh oversaw a full campus transformation — from renovating all upper school classrooms and meeting spaces to expanding the cafeteria, upgrading security infrastructure, installing a new turf field and more. He also led the school’s acquisition and integration of three adjacent buildings, further strengthening the campus footprint.
