(from Inside Higher Ed) A federal judge sentenced a former head coach for men’s and women’s tennis at Georgetown University to 30 months in prison for his role in the Varsity Blues admissions scandal. The sentence is the longest jail term in the scandal so far. Ernst promoted the admission of at least 22 students to Georgetown as purported tennis recruits in exchange for a total of nearly $3.5 million in bribe payments. Other coaches and parents avoided jail time because they cooperated with prosecutors.
