(From ABC News) Before the pandemic, girls had nearly caught up to boys in STEM classes. But within a few years, girls lost all the ground they had gained in math test scores over the previous decade, according to an Associated Press analysis. The sudden dip is due to a combination of factors: The disruption of in-person learning, the suspension of programs specifically designed to support girls in STEM and slower recovery in academic performance compared to boys. Educators also point to persistent gender biases in math and science, which can undermine girls’ confidence and interest in these subjects from an early age.
