(From The74) A Texas initiative that offers higher pay to top-performing teachers is significantly improving teacher retention. Through the Teacher Incentive Allotment program, districts identify outstanding teachers based on student growth and classroom performance. These teachers earn between $3,000 and $32,000 annually, on top of their base salaries. The funding follows teachers if they transfer schools or districts. Since the program’s launch in 2018–19, the percentage of teachers leaving their districts has dropped from 19% to 10%, signaling a strong link between performance-based pay and retention.
