(From K12 Dive) Ransomware attacks on educational institutions rose 23% in early 2025, with 130 incidents and average ransom demands of $556,000, according to software company Comparitech. A separate report found that 82% of U.S. K–12 schools faced cyber incidents between mid-2023 and late 2024. One major case involved a 19-year-old who pleaded guilty to extorting $2.85 million from PowerSchool, compromising data of over 70 million students and teachers. In response, schools are increasingly adopting cybersecurity insurance and multifactor authentication to protect against future threats.
